Have you ever wondered what kind of followers are behind your Instagram profile?

It is known that the number of followers, although it can be said to be only a small variable, appears to be a highly influential figure for those who work on social media on a daily basis.

The point is, however, that an Instagram profile with many followers is not necessarily a good profile.

What is often underestimated is groped to understand the type of people who make up that number: if it is natural that a profile does not have only active and participating followers, it is however essential to know that there are not only active and inactive followers.

In general, indeed, at least 5 categories of followers can be distinguished:

Active: these are certainly those followers who demonstrate a certain level of interest and interaction with your social profile with their actions;

Inactive: these are those profiles that follow you but do not interact effectively with your profile, remaining "spectators". They do not comment, they do not like and in general they participate only passively;

Ghost Followers: they could be easily confused with the previous ones, but a little forethought is enough to recognize them. Unlike inactive followers, which while not participating are still real profiles, Ghost Followers are frequently fake accounts created only for the sale of followers. They are easily recognizable because they often have empty profiles or with very little generic content;

Mass Followers: these are accounts (including real ones) that use BOTs, paid applications, through which to identify profiles sharing the same interest to induce them to reciprocate the follow, and then delete their own after a short time.

How can the problem of inactive and unreal followers be overcome?

Although it appears paradoxical, the problem of Ghosts and Mass Followers is only secondary to that of inactive followers. The goal should not be to prevent someone from following you for a hidden purpose, but to try to convert inactive followers into active followers.

How to do? There is a basic rule: don't get pressed by the algorithm.

We always remember that behind an account there are people, and as such they need to be emotionally and intellectually involved. Create content that you know your audience will enjoy, without giving too much weight to what the algorithm might reward. Real involvement, emotionality and creativity will become the means to be rewarded by Instagram in a way that is completely unrelated to the usual mechanisms.

Even thematic efforts are rewarded more: try to tackle topics that are always precise, in-depth and interesting: generic topics certainly create more amplification, but also more competition; the goal is to be unique to your audience, and there is nothing more satisfying than the trust that is recognized by those who follow you.
